On November 11, 2017, the Jewish Community Center on St. Charles Avenue debuted their new look during their annual fundraiser gala, and celebrated the completion of their Capital Campaign Expansion. This summer, the first phase of renovations opened Oscar J. Tolmas Aquatic Complex which included a competition 25 meter lap pool, family recreation pool, and toddler splash pool. The Goldring Woldenberg Sports and Wellness Complex was fully opened this fall and features a new indoor therapy pool for year round swimming, along with a new 3- story fitness space including cardio studio, cycling studio, personal training room, group exercise room, yoga, and pilates rooms. The early childhood program was also expanded in the addition with two new classrooms.
The addition sought to complement the original modernist 1966 Curtis and Davis building as well as later additions. A brickwork relief featured on the Leontine side makes reference to the familiar textured brick and mortar of the main building. The 14,000 sf addition also left in place the iconic blue-and- yellow post-modern curved glass enclosed elements while creating new and distinct fitness and education center entrances. We are so proud to have partnered with the JCC and its staff especially Executive Director Leslie Fischman. We hope the expansion will contribute to a healthier New Orleans. .
