Restorations and renovations are underway at Touro Synagogue. The work touches each piece of the Touro campus, from the 1909 main sanctuary, the 1928 education building, the 1963 additions , as well as the 1989 social hall. The project goals are to replace aging infrastructure and equipment, while maintaining the campus, and to enhance the spaces that serve and welcome the community to the Touro Synagogue facilities.
In addition to new HVAC systems, complete electrical and fire alarm upgrades are in the works. Community-oriented upgrades include an elevator for the 3- story education building, a new accessible family restroom, gathering and learning spaces for younger and teen members, a renovated adult and children’s library, and upgrades to the community lobby and office spaces. Overall, the work will create a more accessible and warm home for the congregation.
With the help of Touro’s Building Committee, the project manager, Dupont-LeCorgne Construction Consultants, and contractor Woodward Design+Build, a phased approach to construction was conceived to minimize inconvenience and allows synagogue activities to continue throughout the year.
