Blessey Marine Services, a local company that owns and operates a diverse inland tank barge and towing vessel fleet, and Mathes Brierre Architects worked together to complete the design and construction of a new office building located on the Old River in Channelview, Texas, just outside of Houston. The new 10,000 SF building includes offices, a large training room, a six person logistics area, and an open kitchen for employees as well a 14 car parking area on the ground level. The building site is located in a VE flood plain which meant the design had to take into account wave action in the event of flooding. The building utilities were constructed above-ground in order to remain in service during flooding and storm events allowing critical employees to remain on site.
