Mathes Brierre Architects worked with the building committee of First English Lutheran Church since 1999, first on the Master Plan for the new church and then on the design and construction. Since the new church was being constructed in a residential neighborhood, several community meetings and variances were required before construction could begin. Due to the spike in construction costs as a result of the hurricanes of 2005, the design of the church was modified from a 30,000 square foot two story structure to a 12,000 square foot single story structure, eliminating the proposed fellowship hall and the gymnasium from the first phase of construction.
