During Hurricane Katrina, the four-story brick building which housed the offices for the Foundation for LSU Health Sciences Center at 2000 Tulane Avenue suffered flood and roof damage. Mathes Brierre Architects has successfully worked with FEMA to obtain a “replacement” building in lieu of an “improved” facility as well as with the Neighborhood Conservation District
Committee and City Planning to obtain permission to demolish the existing structure and to obtain the necessary variances to rebuild within the challenging triangular geometry of the site. The replacement building, completed in 2013, features parking on the first level as well as three floors of office space for the Foundation.
